Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a pet sitter better than a boarding cattery for my cat?
Your cat will feel more at home in its own territory. Catteries can be stressful places for cats, first of all they experience stress by being removed from their own territory. Then their space is limited compared with your home. Cats do not like their toilet, sleeping area and food bowls to be in such close proximity. On top of this they have the scent and sound from other cats in fairly close range, which can potentially cause stress-related behaviour and illness. Stress-related flu is a common problem with cats who have boarded in boarding catteries. This is not due to poor hygiene or lack of vaccination. Any cats that have been a flu carrier as a kitten or in the past may develop stress-induced flu.
Why Nanny McPurr?
I'm sure it goes without saying that most other pet sitters are animal lovers. Some may have owned cats for decades and be experienced in their care. However, having a qualified veterinary nurse care for you cat is the next best thing than being there yourself. Not only am I a genuine cat lover, as my specialist qualifications in feline nursing show, I am also able to assess your cat's general well-being. I know the signs of ill health, and I know when action is needed. A cat's behaviour when ill or stressed is so very subtle, it can be hard to know when there's a problem. This provides you with extra reassurance, especially if your cat is elderly or taking regular medication.
In addition, I am fully insured and DBS checked.

I am concerned about letting a stranger into my home. Can I trust you?
Absolutely yes! However, I can completely understand that at first it may be unsettling to let a stranger into your home, especially whilst you are away. I believe the best way to address any concerns you may have is to get in touch and have a chat. I have looked after thousands of animals over the past 21 years, and can put you in touch with previous clients who are happy with my services. For your peace of mind, I am fully insured and police checked. My only interest is your cat's welfare whilst they are in my care.
Do you offer dog boarding or dog sitting?
No. Caring for dogs is not something I can offer at this time. I may be able to signpost you to other services that can help.
I have other pets, can you look after them too at the same time?
Yes, Nanny McPurr can also care for fish, reptiles, birds, rodents and small furries. Prices may vary so please contact me for a quote. Currently, I do not provide a service for dogs or large animals.
How many staff work for you? Will it be Nanny McPurr that cares for my cat?
Absolutely. Nanny McPurr is a small, family-run, local business. There are no employees. I am not a franchise. A family member may assist me in my duties during busy periods, but only under my supervision.
My cat is diabetic. Can you offer cat sitting for him/her?
Of course. During the consultation period Nanny McPurr will obtain all the information needed to offer the best care package for your pet. It is important that I have your cat's veterinary surgeon on file in case I need to contact them.
My cat is very timid and nervous. Can you help?
Yes, I cater for all personalities. I understand that a lot of cats do not like strangers, or may even be scared of people. I can adapt my approach to suit your cat's unique personality. Forced contact is not the way to go with some cats. Some cats want to be left alone, and I will respect that.
Do you provide my cat's food and litter?
No, I ask that you leave enough of your cat's normal food, cat litter and treats to cover the length of your booking. This is so that your cat's diet does not change, which could potentialy lead to a dietary upset. I like to keep everything as close to your cat's usual routine as possible.
Can my cat go out as usual during your care?
If your cat has a cat flap that they use regularly, then yes, they can go out as normal. However, if they do not have a cat flap, I strongly advise that your cat is kept safe indoors during your absence. This will still offer your cat more room that a boarding cattey can; whilst guaranteed you'll be greated by happy cat upon your return.
Does my cat have to be vaccinated?
Simply put, no. It is not like a boarding cattery, as obviously your cat will not be coming into contact with other cats. Nanny McPurr does however, recommend that your cat's vaccinations are up to date, as part of good preventative health care for your cat.
What if my cat is ill during your care?
I always obtain your vet's details before you leave. I can contact the vets and, in an emergency, take your pet to the vet in your absence. Please note I cannot diagnose your animal for any medical conditions or provide treatment. Any concerns regarding your cat's health must be referred to your vets.
How and when do I pay?
A non-refundable deposit that is deducted from your total bill applies to every booking. From there, your payment must be paid in full on or before the first visit. Nanny McPurr accepts cash, PayPal or bank transfer.
What if my return is delayed?
It is important you keep me informed of any delays you are experiencing as soon as possible. However, Nanny McPurr would never leave your cat without a daily visit. In the event of a delay, I can continue your cat's daily visits as normal, or, on the rare occassion that I am unable to fulfil this, I can get in touch with your family, friends or neighbours.
