Clearly, 2020 has been a very quiet year for me, with so many cancellations due to the uncertainties surrounding travel and holidays. Although it's been tough financially, I am pleased to confirm that Nanny McPurr will be continuing to operate going forward. I now have several bookings confirmed for the latter half of 2020 and throughout 2021. However, I will be implementing a few new policies, in line with the Government's social distancing advice. 1. Consultations: Until further notice, all consultations for new clients will take place over the telephone or via video call. I will no longer be visiting to do the consultation in person. 2. Keys: Please post your keys through my door in an envelope with your cat/s name on at least 24 hours before your cat's first visit is due to take place. As I live with a vulnerable person, I would ask that you only post them through, rather than knocking the door. This will help to reduce contact. I do have a video doorbell so I can speak to you through that if you need to ask me anything. At the end of the last visit I will post your keys back through your own letterbox. If you are delayed in anyway then please let me know ASAP. If you prefer, I can hold onto your keys for future visits, but I will only do this at your request. The standard policy will now be to return all keys through the letterbox of the last visit. 3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): I will now be using disposable shoe covers to enter your property to avoid any risk of contamination from other environments. I will not be using gloves as good hand hygiene is considered better at controlling contamination than wearing gloves. For more information on this you can look at the advice provided by The World Health Organisation on Facebook. Therefore, I will now wash my hands upon entering and leaving your property, (I generally did this anyway, but this will now be standardised into my routine.) I will carry my own towel to avoid as much contact with your items as possible. On the final visit after washing my hands, I will use Dettol All-in-One Disinfectant spray on the taps and any door handles that I have touched. If you prefer me not to do this, then please advise me at the time of booking as this will be a standardised procedure. Please note that Dettol All-in-One Disinfectant spray is not toxic to animals. I have considered the use of disposable plastic aprons during my visits, but I have decided against it. This is because my experience of working with cats at veterinary hospitals shows that cats do not like the noise and texture of plastic aprons, I would rather your cats have a positive experience of my visits, rather than a scary one. Furthermore, I have been reading and researching this and I believe fabrics are less likely to harbour viruses due to their porous nature. As I am unlikely to encounter any other humans during my visits, I believe it will be adequate to dress is my usual attire. More information on coronavirus, fabrics and fur can be found by clicking the button below. 4. Kitty Cuddles: Don't worry, your cat will still get strokes and cuddles (if they want them) during my visits. There's not much in the way of scientific findings to say that the virus can be transmitted via pet fur, again due to its porous nature. However, as an extra precaution, on the final visit only, I will be reducing my contact with your cats. This will allow at least a 24-hour period between my stroking them and your return. I hope this will be a temporary measure only. If you would prefer me not to touch your cats at all, then please let me know at the time of booking.
5. Transparency: In the interest of my health, my family's health and your family's health I would appreciate it if you would disclose to me at the time of booking if anyone in your household has tested positive for, or had suspected coronavirus. I myself have not knowingly had the virus, nor have I showed any symptoms. Neither has anyone in my household. I have not been tested for the virus. If this changes at all, I will update any clients with active bookings. Hopefully, these changes will have very little impact on you and your cats, but I do hope you appreciate the need to implement them. Please feel free to call, text or email me with any questions. Thanks for taking the time to read this update. These are certainly uncertain times for the UK, and in particular for British holidaymakers. Even if you're staying in the UK for a staycation, there is most likely doubt over whether or not your holiday will go ahead. With no definitive answer from the government, even airlines and holiday companies are unsure over what to advise their customers. 2020 has seen a record number of bookings for Nanny McPurr this year, and I am looking forward to caring for some old favourites and some new furry faces. There has however, also been a handful of cancellations. Some clients have contacted me feeling guilty over cancelling their booking, or even in tears offering to pay their for their cat sitting, despite losing their holiday. I can completely empathise with those of you who have had your holidays or flights cancelled. We are also facing uncertainty over our own family holiday, which is hugely disappointing. Please let me reassure all clients, new and old that there will be no charges for the cancellation of bookings for 2020, in light of the World Health Organisation declaring Coronavirus as a pandemic. This is an unique situation, of which we are all trying to come to terms with and contain. It is bad enough having to limit contact with your families, losing your holidays, and explaining to children that they may not be going on their anticipated travels, without having to pay for a service you cannot use, through no fault of your own. Where possible, I would ask that you give me 48 hours notice. If you do go away I would also request that you keep me up to date with any delays to your return. It is also sensible that you give a key to another trusted friend or relative, in case of any delays or lost communication. I do look forward to caring for all the cats that I have booked in for 2020, but if things don't go to plan, please do not worry about cancelling. Just remember to keep me in mind if you know of any other cat owners, that may find my services useful. So keep washing those hands, keep hydrated, keep being the crazy cat people that I know you all are, and please stop panic buying toilet roll! The following dates are unavailable to book for 2020.
